How to beat blue Monday

So Today is a blue Monday. It is allegedly the most depressing day of the year. Payday is still so far away, you’re fed up with your diet and what’s more you are stuck indoors.

The thing is would you feel extra down today if you didn’t know it was blue monday?

Think about it.. The only reason we know today is the most depressing day of the year is because someone told you. Yes I know there is research and statistics that show this.. but would you feel any different if you didn’t know?

Personally I only know it’s monday (or a week day for that matter) because Peter’s alarm went off this morning, but that’s beside the point.

What i’m trying to say is that its very easy for your to feel ‘blue’ because thats essentially what you’ve been told to do today. For me I woke up as normal and treated the day as any other and will continue to do so for the day (not gonna lie I’m very much looking forward to my nap today)

But if you are finding today harder than usual. Here are a few suggestions for what you can do to many today ‘better’

  1. Move — this doesn’t have to be a workout, you could go for a walk or throw some music on spotify and dance around in your kitchen while you make dinner, this will make you feel less lethargic and give you a nice hit of serotonin to banish those blues.
  2. Treat yourself — have a nice dinner or a lil treat you enjoy at some point today, Feck the diet (if you’re on one) for today! One little treat will not ruin anything and we all know that happiness starts in the stomach!
  3. Make time for something YOU love. This can be reading, painting, watching murder documentorys on netlfix but make sure its something you enjoy!
  4. Switch off — get off social media for a few hours, give your phone to someone who won’t give it back to you. Block social media sites from your browser. We all know it can affect our mental health negatively so why not give yourself a break from it? It will all still be there when you get back, i guarantee you won’t miss much!

So here are my suggestions on how to make blue monday better! I dare you to try it and see what happens!
